A BUS packed with the latest aids, equipment and specialist advice for the blind and partially sighted is coming to town at the invitation of St Helens Community Library Service.

Run by the national charity Action for Blind People, the bus is custom-built to ensure that every square inch is used to full effect.

Features include a wheelchair lift, a small kitchen with simple and inexpensive safety features, and information on tape, in large print and in Braille.

Expertise

The bus is also linked to the charity's National Information Centre so that visitors can tap into a pool of expertise on the spot.

Mobile co-ordinator Bob Welsh says: "Everyone is welcome to come along to the bus and pick up information and ask us questions.

"Visitors can examine various daily living aids, including talking watches and clocks and kitchen equipment through to state-of-the-art computer technology using enhanced print and speech."

The bus will be at the Chester Lane Centre, Marshalls Cross on Tuesday, July 3 from 10am to 4pm; and at Church Square, St Helens on Wednesday, July 4 from 10am to 4pm.

If you are unable to visit the bus, but have a query, you can ring Action for Blind People's information and advice service on 020 7635 4800.
