ONE of the few opportunities of the summer to compete in a fell race arises tonight with the Skipton Shortbank Olympics.
It is three miles long with plenty of climb around the old roman road area beneath Rombalds Moor. Shorter Junior Races (from under 12's) kick off at 6:30pm, Seniors at 7:30pm. Registration is at RAF 264 Squadron ATC on Shortbank Road, five minutes walk from Skipton High Street.

Any Chorley AC athletes not competing in Friday's 'On the Run' 5K in Astley Park are asked to help with the marshalling duties. The junior one mile race starts at 6:30pm with the seniors off at 7pm.
Saturday's Baxenden 5K Trail Race is a fast out and back course with a sting in the tail. A course record will be rewarded with a sweat shirt. From Baxenden CE Primary School, it starts at 2pm, and there is a one mile fun run for under 15s at 1:30pm.
The Grimsargh Field Day 2M Fun Run on Saturday incorporates the Red Rose Road Runners Junior Championship. Parking is at Grimsargh Village Hall Car Park and the run starts at 2:30pm from the Village Green.
The Derian Gala Day 5M is on Sunday at 11am from Astley Village, Chorley. It is run on local roads and through Astley Park.
All finishers receive a T-shirt in the Manchester 10K which is on Sunday. Registration is at the Y-Club, Castlefield, Manchester. Race starts outside the Town Hall, Albert Square at 9am, and finishes at the Castlefield Arena, off Liverpool Road. First man and woman each win £500.
Blackburn Harriers Open Meeting sponsored by Aixam Cars is on Tuesday at 7pm. Entries will be taken on the night between 6:30pm and 7pm. All age groups from under 11's are catered for.
The third race in the Woodend 4M Night Race Series is on Wednesday at 7:30pm. Start is from the Ley Inn Pub, Back Lane, Clayton Le Woods, Chorley.
The Blackburn Race for Life has attracted 1500 entries so far. The ladies only 5K run is raising money for the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. It will be held at Witton Park at 7pm.
Clayton Harriers are inviting local runners to pay tribute to a popular stalwart of the Lancashire running scene. The Roger Hargreaves Memorial 5M Road Race is on Thursday (28th) at 7:30pm. Location is Foulridge Village Hall on the A56 between Foulridge and Earby.
