FIRST match of the Bury Society's junior section took place on the Island Lodge on Wednesday evening in good weather. The event produced some excellent weights, led by Boyden Krupnyckyj jnr with a nice net of skimmer bream 6-8-0, closely followed in second place by Danny Moore with 6-2-0. In third place, Ian Gough with 3-9-0, while in fourth place the youngest competitor, seven-year-old Liam Walmsley featured perch in his catch of 2-9-0. Fifth place fell to Mark Frost 1-11-0, sixth place to Dean Crosswaite 0-12-0 and seventh place to Dean Crosswaite 0-9-8. All the competitors received prizes and the winner chose a whip.
On Thursday evening the National Team Open took place at the Island Lodge with a target weight of 18lb. Overnight rain affected water temperatures with a subsequent down-turn in weights. Boyden Krupnyckyj fished the corner peg to take top weight of 10-5-0. In second place, Paul Robinson had 7-14-0, and in third place Alan Crook took 7-8-4. Section winners were Daz Shaw 7-7-0, and Paul White 5-10-0.
On Sunday, the Island Lodge was the venue for the June Cup, fished by 21 anglers. Daz Shaw fishing the stream-side had top weight 11-4-12. In second place, fishing road-side, Graham Smith 8-10-0, and in third place David Jowett snr 8-1-0. The three section winners were Alan Crook 7-14-0, Jonathan Jowett 7-1-0, Dave Jowett jnr 6-13-0.
On Sunday, in the Hebden Bridge Teck Neck Open, fished on the Rochdale Canal, the match got off to a good start but was marred later on by boat traffic. The Moderna stretch hit top form from peg 302 and Trevor Darson had top weight 13-6-0 with bream and roach. Junior angler Andrew Handley took third place 5-9-8 with roach and tench.
On the pleasure fishing scene, the Green Railings Lodge has yielded a 26lb pike.

BURY JUNIOR SECTION
THE second match takes place on the Island Lodge on Wednesday, June 27, for Cookes Junior Trophy. Draw 5.45pm, fishing 6.30pm to 9pm. Entry free to junior members.
BURY SOCIETY SENIOR SECTION
THE water at Leak's water at Walmersley remains closed for the foreseeable future. Foot and mouth restrictions apply to the access lane from the farm to the motorway bridge. Will members please note that Dean Anglers have an outside club match booked on Parker's stream-side 20 pegs on Sunday 8.30am.
The monthly meeting takes place on Monday at 7.30pm at Elton Liberal Club.
The annual trip to Gorsty Hall takes place on Saturday, June 30. Twenty-five pegs have been booked and and are all taken. The Official's Cup will be fished on this trip. Transport by car.
