REGARDING the closure of Church Street in Blackburn to traffic, as a senior citizen who needs transport to the door of a bank there, I find the closure completely unacceptable.
I was informed that when the alterations are complete, there will be short-stay parking at the lower end of Church Street which will be "disabled only" for 10 per cent of vehicles.
Even if I did not suffer from a shortage of breath, and was able to walk the distance involved, the possibility of finding a vacant parking space would be nil.
Before the street's closure, it was extremely difficult in any case to get parked -- even with a disabled badge.
The least that could be done, now that the decision has been taken, is only to allow persons using Church Street for business in any form to use this short stay parking.
After all, there are plenty of spaces for other users in the shopping precinct. This gives some thought to the safety and accessibility of those of all ages and abilities who have to bank in Church Street, which has at least three banks in it.
