A MYSTERIOUS bottle has got the landlord and customers at the Turf Hotel scratching their heads in puzzlement.

The bottle was found by the friend of a customer whose hobby is digging for unusual artefacts.

"It's a glass gin type bottle with 'Thomas Gee. Turf Hotel, Radcliffe' written on it," said landlord of the Water Street pub, Mr Frank Nicholson.

"What's puzzling is that no-one has ever heard of this Thomas Gee. I know the names of all the landlords going back to the 1920s, so he must have been around before then. The actual bottle was found in the Heaton Park area."

Bury's archives department is endeavouring to find out more about the history of the bottle, which Mr Nicholson intends to put on display.

"I've rubbed it, but no genie has appeared so I'm hoping someone out there might be able to tell me something about this Thomas Gee," he said.
