A BURY schoolboy had his little toe stitched back on after his foot was crushed by a hit-and-run motorist.

Adam Squires (13) was sitting on the kerb of Ringley Road at 5.20pm on Saturday (June 16) when a blue Vauxhall Nova, heading towards Radcliffe, drove over his feet.

Adam, who attends Castlebrook High School, Unsworth, was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital with a broken ankle and broken bones in his feet.

He was later transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital where he underwent microsurgery to sew his partly-severed toe back on to his left foot.

Adam, a member of Clifton Army cadets, could still lose his toe through poor circulation.

His mother, Debra Lord (37), said: "He's really upset. He was supposed to be going on camp with the Army cadets next weekend and he'll miss that now.

"It will be a long road to recovery and he's going to miss playing football and riding on his bike."

Adam's friends told police that they saw the driver deliberately swerve towards him.

Mrs Lord, of Grosvenor Street, Kearsley, added: "It's a wide road and there is no way someone would have had to ride over his feet.

"There would have been plenty of cars around at that time on Saturday, and I would urge people to contact the police."

Witnesses with information abut the incident should call Bolton traffic unit on 0161 856 5972.
