JOHN Duffy fears his season may be in ruins - but has got his fingers crossed that he's wrong!

The hooker-cum-half-back who has figured in virtually every game this season, damaged knee ligaments in the defeat at Rochdale last Sunday and the prognosis isn't looking too hot.

Initial examinations show that he's got a problem with the lateral ligaments in his knee and there may even be a cruciate ligament strain.

The full extent of the injury won't be known until he's had a final verdict from a specialist but the chirpy hooker is fearing the worst.

"I'm gutted, totally devastated to think that my season could be over just as things are shaping up for a great finish," he told the Journal.

"I've got my fingers crossed that the injury isn't as bad as everyone first thought but if it is, then I can forget the rest of the season.

"The team has come so far this year and to miss out now when all the really big games are coming up is a real body blow."

Duffy, a close season signing from Salford, looks like he'll also have to give up the chance of a Scottish international cap. He has been named in the 28-man squad for an international in France on Tuesday week.
