AN MAN was today continuing to fight for his life after colliding with a bus.
David Mellelieu, 31, of Persia Street, Accrington , collided with a Blackburn Transport single-decker bus after he stepped out from the kerb on Blackburn Road, Accrington, early yesterday.
He was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries and later transferred to Royal Preston Hospital where he underwent surgery.
The driver of the bus, Clifford Dickinson, 53, of Great Harwood and his two passengers were uninjured.
Michael Morton, managing director for Blackburn Transport, said they had launched an investigation into the incident.
Mr Mellelieu's family were at his bedside today.
Police initially were unable to identify him and launched an appeal for family members to come forward.
While police investigated the scene of the accident the road was closed for two and a half hours during rush hour traffic and diversions were set up.
During this time a Ribble Stagecoach single-decker bus reversed into a back alley off Lonsdale Street and demolished a wall of one of the houses.
The driver, Mohammed Mashhadi, 36, and his three passengers were uninjured.
