Leyland 119 alI out St Annes 121-0
IT was back to winning ways for St Annes in the Northern Premier League as they totally demolished a weakened Leyland side which showed several changes from the previous week.
Only opener Bavla and lower order batsman Gardiner offered any real resistance. They shared a stand of 52 for the sixth wicket.
Earlier Leyland's professional Naseem Khan had been run out after only two balls, and things went from bad to worse for the home side with the last five wickets managing only ten runs.
Davies and Taylor were again among the wickets and professional Callaghan finished the job with two victims in two balls.
An unbeaten partnership of 121 between openers Darlington and Evans in 88 minutes saw St Annes reach their target in 29 overs.
Evans was particularly impressive hitting ten boundaries in his 101-ball innings of 62. After a slow start Darlington came to life to hit seven fours in his 70-ball fifty.
Twelve points kept St Annes up with the league leaders, but unfortunately their hopes of Lancashire Cup success were dashed at Kearsley on Sunday.
The home side set a target of 209 for the loss of three wickets with St Annes pro Callaghan taking two wickets for 29 runs from nine overs.
Then Callaghan hit 64, and when he was the sixth St Annes batsman to be dismissed they needed just 15 runs from as many balls. Unfortunately the remaining batsmen could only manage nine runs between them and they were bowled out for 204.
On Saturday, at Fox Lane, the Second XI won with Andy Taylor scoring 84 and Andy Kellett (64) contributing to a score of 210. Leyland were bowled out for 201 with John Cotton claiming 5 for 64.
The Third XI beat Boston and the Fourths beat Anchorsholme A.
