A DISTRICT judge has dismissed a Blackpool Pleasure Beach visitor's claim against the amusement park for an injury sustained while riding on the Big One rollercoaster in July 1995.
District Judge Jones said that the rider, Ruth Fawcett, was extremely careless for her own safety and, contrary to clear instructions, had not held the grab rail with both hands.
The judge also found that the Pleasure Beach had carried out its full duty in making sure riders of the Big One -- one of the tallest and fastest rollercoasters in the world -- are reasonably safe and that the forces exerted on the ride would not be dangerous to riders.
Costs were awarded to the Pleasure Beach and Miss Fawcett was refused permission to appeal.
David Cam, Pleasure Beach Director and Company Secretary, said: "Visitors must not think that they can visit amusement parks, behave foolishly and enjoy compensation for self-inflicted injury."
