A DRUG addict broke in to his parents' home and stole goods when they refused to give him money to settle a debt.

Dean Wilcock had asked his father to give him £150, but he refused. A later request for £60 also fell on deaf ears.

Wilcock then raided his parents' home in Fairfield Avenue, Golborne, and took their TV, a video and a hi-fi worth a total of £1,115.

He also caused £600 damage to a patio door during the break-in.

But a neighbour spotted Wilcock, 27, of King Street, Newton-le-Willows, putting the goods into his van.

Appearing at Bolton Crown Court for sentence, after admitting burglary, obtaining cash by deception and making off without payment at an earlier hearing.

Prosecutor Julian Taylor said Wilcock went to the Cash Generator shop in Leigh the next day and sold the stolen items for £150, claiming he owned them.

Later that day, he drove to a garage and left without paying for £15 worth of fuel.

The court heard Wilcock felt shame and remorse at what he had done, and had now resumed contact with his parents.

Judge Gillian Ruaux ordered Wilcock to pay £600 compensation to his father, and undergo a drug treatment and testing order.
