MOTOR Neurone Disease (MND) Awareness Week lasts until June 25.

MND is a rapidly progressive fatal disease which robs people of two precious things, time to live and life itself. It races through the body, leaving people unable to walk, talk or feed themselves, yet leaves the mind and senses intact. Every day three people die of MND in this country.

The Manchester and district branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association aims to raise funds to help support the 120 people who are living with MND in the Manchester area.

Nationally, the Motor Neurone Disease Association is helping to provide advice and support to people with MND, their families and carers, whilst improving understanding of the disease amongst health and social care professionals. Finding a cure and treatment for MND is vital and the Association is sponsoring more than 20 projects in the UK alone, including studies into "gene" therapy which scientists believe could hold the key to a cure.

If anyone would like to support our local branch, to help people with MND and their families, please contact Sue McCormick, 11 Gainsborough Avenue, Withington M20 4US (Tel: 0161 434 8366).
