POSTAL worker Francis Michael Owens failed a breath test after drinking a pub's "guest beer," which was stronger than his normal brew.
Owens, 31, of Gretna Walk, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was disqualified for 18 months and fined £150 with £55 costs.
Owens, who gave a reading of 78 against the legal limit of 35, agreed to be referred to the drink-drive rehabilitation programme which, if completed successfully, will reduce his ban by up to 25 per cent.
Roger Pickles, defending, said Owens had been to a football match and afterwards drank no more than three pints. It was "clearly much stronger than normal strength beer and the public perception that two pints is the limit is not always correct," Mr Pickles said.
