A VETERAN association today appealed for new recruits to step forward and help save the day.
Over the last 12 months the Darwen branch of the Royal British Legion has lost two of its main poppy appeal committee members.
Treasurer Jack Lee died last year and the organiser of the committee was forced to retire due to ill health.
The group currently has about 80 members.
But only about 20 of those are fit enough to attend meetings and functions.
Now they are appealing for younger people to join in a bid to help keep the committee going.
Past chairman Jack Calvy said: "We have had a troubled 12 months.
"And with most of our remaining members being in their 70s they are not of an age to take these positions up.
"We need somebody active enough to help organise the ordering of wreaths and the distribution of charity boxes.
"We would be more than grateful to see anyone that could help us."
