IN response to the story (LET, June 14), regarding Councillor Ashley Whalley asking for the big boy companies to move into Blackburn's newly renovated Church Street when completed, I would have thought that a man in Coun Whalley's position -- chairman of the regeneration of Blackburn with Darwen -- who has instigated an £11 million injection into the town centre, would, before work started, have secured a commitment from big names to move into the sites.
Hopefully they could have contributed towards the cost of the town hall's investment. You could have a new town centre in Blackburn but with nobody to occupy the shops.
You know the old saying, Coun Whalley: "Fur coat, no knickers."
You never know, they may then have enough money left over to spend some money on Darwen town centre. Just in case Coun Whalley does not know where this is, it is where most of the Blackburn buses go to pick up people and take them back to Blackburn to shop.
ROY DAVIES, Olive Lane, Darwen.
