THE cream of East Lancashire's next generation of engineers was honoured at an awards ceremony at Mytton Fold Hotel, Billington.
Jeff Cowburn, joint chief executive of Training 2000, which organised the event, said engineering apprenticeships were becoming increasingly important. "There is a shortage of skilled engineers and programmes, such as those offered by Training 2000, are vital to minimise this shortage," he said.
A variety of awards were presented by Steve Palmer, executive director of the Lancashire Learning and Skills Council. The Blackburn Engineers Cup was won by Philip Cole, 17; the Kestrel Trophy went to Thomas Fairburn, 18; the Thorn EMI Trophy was won jointly by Ian Crossley, 22, and Neil Walsh, 23; and the Singer Cobble Cup was picked up by Chris Flowers, 18.
