FOOTBALL-mad girls have put their male classmates to shame by winning an all-important, annual football tournament for girls.
Year five and six pupils at St Albans RC Primary School, Trinity Street, Blackburn overwhelmed their components by winning seven games at Roe Lee Park School, Blackburn.
The 11-strong side outplayed 20 other schools from around Blackburn and Darwen to gain the annual championship title.
Headteacher, of St Albans Primary School, Peter Keegan, was there to watch the events activities. He said: "The girls were fantastic and they did really well to win because they don't have a football pitch to practice on, they currently have to play football on the play ground.
"There aren't a lot of events for girls, so this was a pleasant change for them. We hope that next year we can win without losing any points at all, but we had to give the other schools a bit of a chance."
