ELIZABETH Ann Campbell, 31, of Broughton Close, Blackburn, was fined £50 with £50 costs by Blackburn magistrates after pleading guilty to stealing a set of calligraphy pens from Focus DIY.
The court heard that Campbell had purchased an item but as she left the security alarm had sounded.
Staff brought her back to check the security tag had been removed from her purchase but as she left the alarm sounded again.
This time she was taken to the officer and when asked if she had anything else produced the pen set from under her jacket.
Kevin Preston, defending, said Campbell is in full time employment and had gone into Focus for a legitimate purpose.
"She had £30 on her and can come up with no explanation for why she took these pens," said Mr Preston.
"It was a one off, inexplicable offence."
