IN reply to 'Worried Yicker' writing about Councillor Caunce, a lot of local Haydock people would disagree over comments made about the Cottage Hospital.
He did more than his fair share trying to block the closure. Over a long period he fought hard with the powers-that-be in London to keep it open, but to no avail. The local miners' money helped to build the hospital and there was anger that it was to be closed.
I agree there are too many houses being built and not enough recreation facilities for the community, but to blame Mr Caunce is unjust as he can only voice his opinion in council chambers. He alone isn't to blame for all the wrongs that the writer suggests.
