Though I agree with Mr Brierley (Letters 29/06/2001) that the smell of stale tobacco on ones' clothing is repungant, stale tobacco smells on clothes does not cause criminal damage, offence or injury.
I think that drinking alcohol in public should be banned, sooner rather than later.
I have had the misfortune to be pestered by these people whilst shopping in Blackburn town centre.
If they are not shouting out foul language in front of children and other passersby, they are pestering people for money.
There is also the problem of the discarded empty bottles, usually broken.
It is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured as a result of this anti-social behaviour.
