A NEW Prestwich supermarket has been robbed the day after it opened.
A masked gang burst into the Lidl store in Bury New Road, Sedgley Park, as staff prepared to close the superstore after its second day trading.
Four men, one of whom was armed with a monkey wrench, ordered the seven staff and remaining customers to stand clear as they entered the office area and grabbed around £2,000.
A spokeswoman for Lidl said: "The new store has been welcomed by the public of Prestwich.
"However, I cannot make any comment on the robbery."
No-one was injured during Friday night's (June 22) raid and police have launched an appeal for witnesses to the robbery to come forward.
Anyone with information about the robbery should call Whitefield CID on 856 8248.
