POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a woman was shot in the forehead with an air rifle as she walked along Burnley Road, in Colne, on Tuesday.
The woman, who has not been named, was walking near the junction of Gibfield Road with her partner at around 12.45am when she was hit on the head.
DC Andy Eddleston said: "Someone fired an air weapon at the couple and it caused a puncture wound to the woman's forehead.
"We are not sure which direction it came from and are appealing for anyone who saw the incident, or can identify the offender, to contact us.
"It's a serious offence and although the woman only suffered minor injuries, it could have been a lot worse. It could have taken her eye out.
"A lot of windows were broken by pellets fired from an air rifle a couple of months ago and it could be the same people."
The woman was taken to Burnley General Hospital but was not detained.
Anyone with information about the attack should contact DC Eddleston on 01282 472445.
