THE UK Open Golf Championship is coming to Lytham in July -- and it's bringing 700 jobs for Fylde folk with it.
The tournament -- which is playing host to major golf stars including Tiger Woods -- will be held at the Royal Lytham Golf Club from July 15 to 22 and is due to attract 250,000 fans.
St Annes Job Centre is hoping to recruit local people for the catering, security and attendants jobs that will be created for the duration of the championship. The centre on St Georges Road will be holding an open day this Saturday from 10am to 2pm to recruit people for the jobs.
Many of the 700 jobs on offer will be for catering staff -- bar staff, waiting staff and glass collectors. But there will also be positions for car park attendants, security guards, porters, cashiers, labourers, ticket checkers and dishwashers.
Pay will be no less than £4.50 per hour and applicants can expect to work between 10am and 8pm.
Stuart Smythe, recruitment manager at St Annes Job Centre, said that the jobs would be ideal for students and retired people in the area, but that anyone could apply.
"The jobs will be open to people who can work hard but want to have a bit of fun at the same time.
"Age is no problem, experience is no problem, qualifications are no problem. Applicants just have to be able to talk to people and be well-presented and we can fit them up with something.
"We are expecting 250,000 visitors and we have to keep them fed and watered. There will be plenty of famous people coming to watch and all the American networks will be here.
"And, of course, Tiger Woods will be coming, so it should be very interesting," he said.
Although June 30 is the main recruitment day for the jobs, the Job Centre will continue recruiting throughout the tournament, and staff are even setting up a mini Job Centre on the golf course at Lima Road during the championship.
Mr Smythe added: "People can come up to see us on the course. Even if they only want to work for a weekend, that's fine by us. We will be here until the final day on July 22.
"It really is a good event for the area and the Open only comes to Lytham once every six or seven years."
Employers will be at the Job Centre to interview people on the open day. For further information phone the Job Centre on 615400.
