LOCAL MP, Geraldine Smith this week expressed her support for people both with dementia and their carers in Morecambe and Lunesdale, in the run up to Alzheimer's Awareness Week.
The theme of the week, which will run until July 7, is "Everyday Matters".
The Alzheimer's Society will be focusing on the impact dementia has on everyday life and how people with dementia and their carers cope with the challenge dementia brings.
Geraldine said "I am very happy to be supporting the Alzheimers Society as they are raising a subject that needs to be brought out into the open. This should be publicised as this is a disease that has the capacity to affect us all."
More than 1,035 people living in Morecambe and Lunesdale have dementia and more than three times that number are effected by the consequences. Harry Cayton, chief executive of the Alzheimers Society said: "I'm very pleased that Geraldine Smith MP is supporting Alzheimer's Awareness Week. It's all about the importance of ordinary life and routine for people with dementia. For all concerned, every day matters."
