TRAFFIC ground to halt in Blackburn after a lorry smashed into a railway bridge and overturned.
The vehicle, which was too tall for the bridge, was attempting to pass under Darwen Street Railway Bridge at about 5pm yesterday when the crash happened.
Police and fire crews sealed off the area while the driver was freed from the cab and taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary with slight cuts.
Three fire engines and the Incident Support Unit from Accrington attended the scene.
The crash caused long tailbacks for traffic driving into the town centre along Bolton Road and there were lengthy delays while the lorry was removed.
