COUNCIL bosses have pledged to find a solution to a rat-run nightmare being endured by residents in a Darwen street.
Some 27 residents living in a block of terraced houses in Blackburn Road, have signed a petition calling for action to be be taken on a back-road which runs behind number 553-605, near to Darwen Vale High School and the M65.
In a letter attached to the petition, the residents claim the street is being used 'as a rat-run'.
It states: "We have been plagued by lorries and speeding cars using our back street as a means to avoid queues at the lights prior to joining the M65.
"During winter months this causes the back to become a quagmire and results in large pot holes, which are unsightly and dangerous."
The letter goes on to request that Access Only or Private Road signs be placed at each end of the road to deter drivers.
The petition is set to be presented to Blackburn with Darwen's planning and highways committee which is due to meet on Thursday.
A report to the committee recommends officers consult the residents about the possibility of erecting bollards at one end of the street.
