TOWN hall bosses have appointed an Oldham man as the new chief executive of Bury Council.
Mark Sanders will take over the £83,000-a-year job on October 1 from Dennis Taylor, who is taking early retirement.
Mr Sanders said: "This is a fabulous honour for me and I will strive to repay the trust that councillors and the people of Bury have placed in me. I look forward greatly to the challenge ahead."
Married with two children, Mr Sanders (47) is Oldham Council's executive director of policy, performance and regeneration. He was previously assistant chief executive. Before then he worked for Leeds Council, and was a full-time union official for NUPE.
Councillor John Byrne, leader of Bury Council, said: "We had some excellent candidates and it was a difficult decision but Mark was our unanimous choice.
"He comes to us at a time of change and one which will be a real test for his abilities. We have every confidence that he will live up to our expectations."
