A 90-year-old man was rescued by firefighters after a blaze in the kitchen of his home yesterday..
Aaron Gee, who lived alone in the house in Every Street, Nelson, left a chip pan unattended and it set on fire at 4.34pm.
He was taken to Burnley General Hospital with smoke inhalation and shock was today said to be comfortable.
The kitchen was destroyed and the rest of the house was severely damaged.
Sub-officer Gary Kiyani said: "The house was gutted and he won't be living there again."
