THE University of Central Lancashire is offering a 12-week distance learning course to help people become their own career manager.
The course is delivered in association with Learndirect and is free to people who enrol before the end of July.
The University Certificate in Career Planning is delivered on CDROM and is supported by a tutor through e-mail.
The course will focus on developing awareness of skills, abilities and interests and identifying strengths and weaknesses. It will also hone job-finding skills and improve knowledge of career opportunities.
By the time students have completed the course, they will be able to recognise trends in employment and will understand what skills employers are seeking and the processes of selection at interviews.
They will also learn how to prepare a curriculum vitae and complete professional applications to a high standard. Studying will be at home in 14 bite-sized units taken at students' own pace. Applicants will be expected to have either A-level or equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.
