A COUPLE who were in the middle of a week-long holiday in Ibiza when the Balearic coach strike broke out today praised the way the situation is being handled.

Frank and Valerie Hull, both retired, thought they would be caught up in chaotic delays as they started their journey home but, instead, said they were impressed with the work of police, their holiday company and taxi drivers.

"The main panic seemed to be getting to the airport, but the service was very good," said Frank. "We were taken early to be on the safe side.

"We were there at 5.30pm and the flight didn't go until 2am. It was a long wait and very busy, but the holiday reps were great.

"The police were helping with the taxi services. Obviously there were queues because it takes longer to board taxis than coaches.

"The Spanish Civil Guard were there in case there were any disturbances, but we didn't see anything like that.

"There were a lot of tired and bored people but generally everybody was in good spirits because they'd just enjoyed a good holiday."

The Hulls, of Ashton Road, Darwen, travelled with Direct Holidays to Playa D'en Bossa on June 22 and returned on Saturday.
