LEIGH RMI manager Steve Waywell today likened his financial plight with that of Wanderers' boss Sam Allardyce.
Bolton are set for a £30million cash bonanza from their promotion to the Premiership but Allardyce will only have a small part of that to spend on players.
Waywell may be four divisions lower in the Conference but faces a similar situation.
Leigh have agreed terms with both Crewe and Tranmere for the £150,000 transfer of star striker Steve Jones - who is currently pondering which club to join - but Waywell will only have a small amount of the fee to spend on new players.
"Wanderers are in the same situation as ourselves," he admitted. "The revenue they get is needed to keep the club going. Like myself Allardyce knows that the club comes first before spending money on players.
Silly wages
"Leigh has always been in the black and if we start to make big money signings and pay out silly wages the club will quickly go down. We need to keep a steady ship."
Waywell was pleased with the fixtures for the new Conference season despite an hectic couple of months.
Leigh face an incredible 12 games in the opening six weeks but the frantic schedule suits Waywell.
"It is usual that we have a busy start but that suits me fine as we can get quite a few games out of the way before the bad weather arrives," he added.
The Leigh boss was also happy to kick-off at Hilton Park against last season's strugglers Hayes.
"It will not be easy but I am pleased to have a home game to start off with, as we then have two tough trips to Doncaster and newcomers Margate." August
