BURNLEY pair Michael Hunt and Ben Scott won the prize for the best gross score at the Pleasington Stag Open.
Hunt, the current Harold Ryden champion, and former winner Scott finished on 151, just three strokes off the best nett score of 148.
The nett prize was won by Barry Giblin and Keith Sargent of Haydock Park.
"We were disappointed not to win the nett prize as well as the gross," said 22-year-old Hunt.
"We won the gross by three in the end but it could have been much better.
"I think if we'd parred the back nine we would have done it but we weren't playing our best."
Hunt's handicap of plus one -- achieved after his record-breaking 62 at Burnley in the Shuttleworth Cup -- and Scott's scratch handicap hindered their quest for the best nett prize against pairs with combined handicaps of seven and 12.
Scott and Hunt scored 74 in the first round and 77 in the second for a combined score of 151.
Pleasington member Roy Barker, partnered by Jim Gresty from Llandudno course Maesdu, took second place in the gross contest with 154.
Pleasington's Nathan Ward, partnered by Martin Wild of Mere, finished with the third best gross score of 157.
Wilpshire's Colin McDermid, partnered by Andrew Blackledge from Manchester course Dean Wood, came third in the nett contest with 150.
