A FALL in the street is the most likely reason that led to the death of 94-year-old retired engineer Gilbert Kinder.
An inquest heard that Mr Kinder also fell at his flat and after admission to hospital in Burnley General and Pendle Hospital, Nelson.
He died from bleeding in the brain which East Lancashire Coroner David Smith was most probably caused by the fall in the street possibly aggravated by a later trauma.
Returning a verdict of accidental death, Mr Smith said death was caused by an accident not a deliberate act.
Mr Kinder died in Burnley General on March 3. Mr Smith was told that he was admitted to ward 7 at Burnley General after falling in the street. On Tuesday, March 6 he fell full length on the floor near to his bed after trying to get up to walk suffering a lump to the back of his scalp.
Afterwards his conditioned improved and on March 1 he was transferred to Pendle Hospital. The next day staff found him sitting in the middle of the ward.
Pathologist Dr Zuhair Twaij said at the post mortem examination he found areas of bleeding bigger than was shown on the scan. Cause of death was a subdural haemorrhage.
Mr Smith said it had become a complex case because of the different falls.
