FORMER Preston Citizen photographer Robert Underdown was in Cyprus this week when trouble flared following the arrest of Cypriot MP Marios Matsakis, who is protesting against the installation of a new radar mast at the Akrotiri military base.
Robert, who was invited to take pictures of local troops serving on the island, said: "The riot started when the local MP, dubbed the Cypriot Swampy, climbed up a 100ft radar tower.
"After six hours he was coaxed down and taken to a sovereign-based police station. When he was released about 300 people outside stormed the station and the police called in the army.
"Several vehicles were set alight and the police station was destroyed."
