IMAGINE a show with Elvis Presley, Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey on the same bill.
Too good to be true? Well they are just a handful of the rock icons portrayed in Legends, the hit rock and roll tribute show which returned on June 30 for a third summer season in Blackpool.
And now the world's greatest showbiz line-up -- Legends' favourites Elvis, Shirley Bassey, Freddie Mercury, Rod Stewart, Neil Diamond, ABBA and Barbra Streisand -- has been joined by new faces Tom Jones and Lionel Ritchie in this year's star-studded spectacular at the Central Pier Showbar.
The hit show -- which features winners of ITV's Stars In Their Eyes -- was the only Blackpool show that was a virtual sell-out every night last year and producer Trevor Chance, who thought up the whole Legends concept in 1990, said that he was looking forward to an even better run this year. "It's so popular because most people can't get to see the big artistes these days. People can't afford tickets for Wembley, and you definitely can't see Elvis any more! Plus, you could never get four or five artistes of that calibre on the stage at one time. This way you can afford to see your idols. And they will sing all the old classics, not new stuff the real stars are trying to plug.
"The show is great for all ages. You are going to get good old-fashioned entertainment in the ideal venue. The Showbar is more of a cabaret-style place where you can have a drink and something to eat while you are watching," he explained.
Maxine Barrey, the former Stars In Their Eyes winner who wowed viewers as Shirley Bassey, said that she was looking forward to being on the Legends stage again.
"I love working with the Legends team, we are all great friends. Last season we never had a bad night. The audience loves it and there's something for everybody's taste. This year I'm doing a new duet with Tom Jones. It will add a bit of fun," said Maxine.
Legends runs nightly at the Central Pier Showbar until October 28, at 8pm on weeknights, 6pm and 9.30pm at weekends. Two different line-ups perform each week. Show One stars Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Elvis Presley and Freddie Mercury and Show Two stars Rod Stewart, Neil Diamond, Lionel Ritchie, ABBA and Barbra Streisand.
Tickets are £10 and £12 for adults, £5 for children, with discounts for OAPs and groups. For details and tickets phone Blackpool Live on 292029.
