DAWN Ireson was pleasantly surprised to see a wartime photograph of her ex-serviceman father smiling out from this page (June 14).
It had been among a pack of snapshots found on the floor of the St Helens Post Office, Bridge Street, by employee Lynn Conachy, of Rainford Junction. Lynn had thoughtfully passed them on to me to see if we could discover any family claimants.
And a delighted Dawn, from Royal Grove, Ravenhead, was quick to respond.
She explains that her father, Harry Ireson (81) and her mother Christina (82) are still alive. Sadly, both now suffer from Altzheimer's disease, but Dawn was delighted to receive the snapshots which revive memories of a time when her father was a fighting-fit airman serving in Palestine.
Says Dawn: "I'm grateful to Lynn for passing on the photos, but I'm at a loss to know how they came to be in the post office".
