DUE TO local demand, a trip has been organised to visit The Somme on this year's Accrington Pals Trip.
The tour, between October 12-15, will take in the most important battlefields, cemeteries and museums of the First World War including the Newfoundland Memorial in the battle-scarred park at Beaumont Hamel.
Other venues will be the Serre battlefield, the Ulster Tower, Auchonvillers, La Bolselle Crater, Pozleres, Delville Wood and the South African Memorial, the Golden Madonna and Musee des Abris at Albert, plus the Historical Museum at Peronne.
William Turner, local historian and author of many books about the Pals, will act as guide for the tour guaranteeing a fascinating weekend. And as a taster for the trip a new range of Accrington Pals artefacts, including items from the William Turner collection, are now on display in the Information Centre foyer at the Town Hall.
The exhibition has photographs, postcards, an original Pals cap and a model coal scuttle made from an 18-pounder shell case.
Booking forms for the trip and further information are also available at the Information Centre or by calling 01254 8725995.
