AN ENVIRONMENTAL scheme worth £60,000 has recently been completed in Thornton.
The Burn Naze area scheme, funded by Wyre Borough Council, aims to improve pedestrian safety by cutting down on traffic movement and making the area feel more secure. Improvements include a central meeting area, fencing and landscaping, more clearly defined parking areas and resurfacing of footpaths.
Councillor Sally Preston, chairman of Wyre's environmental schemes sub-committee said: "I am delighted with the finished results. Not only does the area look better, the design of the scheme will help reduce traffic speeds so that everyone, especially children, can use the area in greater safety."
The Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre, Councillor David and Lynn Sharples, attended the opening ceremony on Saturday (June 30) at the new seating area at the top end of Hapton and Rock Streets.
Margaret Verity, of Burn Naze Residents Association, said: "I am pleased that the scheme has been completed. Burn Naze already has a good community spirit and the completion of the scheme will help boost it even further.
