ANCHORSHOLME Liberal Democrats have launched a "We want a Wheelie" campaign.
They want to persuade Blackpool Borough Council to provide wheelie bins for the town's residents after complaints about the state of litter in the town.
Liberal Democrat Coun Jon Bamborough said: "Many people have contacted me either by phone or letter asking why we cannot have wheelie bins in Blackpool.
"Wheelie bins would immediately solve the problem of cats and seagulls tearing up refuse sacks, scattering the contents all over the place."
The campaign will ask the residents of Anchorsholme whether or not they would prefer a wheelie bin. Coun Bamborough added: "We hope to extend the consultation to cover many other areas of Blackpool. Council officers are currently looking at the logistics of providing wheelie bins -- we would like to know what the Blackpool residents think."
David Dixon-Smith, head of waste management, said: "We have started a best value review on services. This will look at waste collection for which there are a number of different options and wheelie bins are just one of them. There is also a major capital requirement to consider with wheelie bins."
