BARTON'S pickles, which have been tickling the tastebuds of St Helens folk for nearly 100 years, could soon soon be spreading their culinary influence across the whole of the North West.
For Edmund Barton Ltd., has formed a partnership with Pedigree Masterfoods, a division of Mars UK Ltd, with the aim of using the knowledge of the larger company to expand their sales across the whole of the region.
Established in 1905, Barton's, based in Lascelles Street, Fingerpost, are famous locally for their fine pickles, sauces and chutneys.
The new partnership was set up through an Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) Small Food Producers Initiative, whereby large companies act as mentors to smaller businesses. The aim is that smaller firms, often at a critical stage in their development, will grow and flourish under the guidance of the mentor company.
And Joanna Fairhurst, general manager of Barton's, hopes that support from a larger company will help her develop the business and meet the objective of doubling turnover within the next two years.
