A MAN paid for a second-hand car with £900 in counterfeit bank notes when he did a deal in a fast-food car park.
The deceit was only noticed the next day when a wife of one of the men who had sold the restored car tried to pay the cash in to a Hindley bank.
She was shocked to discover the Scottish £10 notes were all forged and only had two different serial numbers.
The deal for the car had been carried out in the car park of McDonald's in Westhoughton.
At Bolton Crown Court, Zaheer Ahmed, 23, of Newport Street, Nelson, admitted obtaining property by deception and having control of a counterfeit currency note.
Ahmed was jailed for three months, despite arriving at court with enough cash to pay full compensation to the two victims, Colin Welsh and Thomas Calderbank, who advertised the Vauxhall Carlton for £1,095.
