IT looks like there will be a happy ending for customers of the former St Helens Glass Company, who will be cheered by news that the owners of the company which bought out the double glazing specialists have decided to honour warranties after all.
The decision follows a report in last week's Star when angry customers of the former St Helens Glass Company expressed their dismay at how guarantees issued prior to the company going into receivership in May were being scrapped by the newly formed St Helens Glass Limited.
The new company said they did not have any legal responsibility to honour the contracts and it appeared that customers would have to accept that their guarantees were no longer valid.
Now, they have changed their policy and state that any customer with a guarantee issued from the old company will be able to re-register their guarantee with St Helens Glass Limited. This is providing that the necessary paperwork is completed and a fee of £25 is paid, which covers legal and administration costs.
A spokesperson for St Helens Glass said: "The St Helens Glass brand has evolved over 30 years. Customer care and goodwill have been an integral part of the brand's success during that time. However, the situation regarding guarantees is complex because St Helens Glass Ltd is a new company, under new ownership."
"We are now in a position to take action and to offer a practical solution. We are also extremely grateful for the patience shown by people affected while we have sought to resolve the situation."
