ON Saturday Sutton CC 1st XI visited Liverpool Manweb hoping for an upturn of fortunes.
Batting first, the Sutton openers made an excellent start with skipper Mike Rimmer returning to form with 44 and Geoff Bowles scoring 60.
Then some big hitting by all-rounder Ste Greener helped Sutton to 199-8 declared.
Liverpool Manweb chased the total well but were pegged back by the Sutton bowlers who all chipped in as the home side finished on 152-8 to draw the game.
The 2nd XI met Manweb at New Street and were invited to bat first. Andy Heaton top scored with 40 as Sutton were bowled out for 145.
In reply, Ste Moss with 4-55 from 23 overs and captain Eric Lanchin 3-45 from 15 overs did most of the damage, but were unable to take the final wicket as Manweb finished on 129-9.
The 3rd XI visited Billinge who batted first and blasted 260 from 40 overs. Sutton were never up with the run rate and only Jimmy Clarke, who rolled back the years in his Chris Tavare role, stayed at the crease as Sutton were all out for 85.
Sutton wish to thank their match sponsor the Sunlight Indian Takeaway for their continued support.
