A FED up resident in the Kirkhall Lane area has appealed for help to tackle the problems of what he claims is "a filthy street in a disgraceful state".
Two boarded-up council houses blight the small Yates Street, Leigh, square, one daubed with obscenities.
My complainant tells me there are little children and embarrassed, fed-up people living in the area who are "faced with this sick, pighole of a street every day of their lives."
He alleges the culprits are non-rent payers and council tax payers who, he says, must be low-lifes to want to live with such filth.
What a shame for the decent tenants who live there.
A reliable source tells me that the problems of Yates Street are long standing. No-one wants to move into the homes which have been empty and boarded up for months.
There are older people in the vicinity, but there are also lots of young people and children who are allowed to run riot and wreck the place.
The road around the central field has been widened to allow families access with cars, but work that has been done is not appreciated and regularly vandalised.
It's a pity because the residents are fortunate enough to live in a community with the advantage of homes with open views. They're not crammed on top of each other or overlooked from the front.
It should and could be a decent area. for everyone if the perpetrators of the trouble treated it with respect and appreciated the assets.
Unfortunately, some people don't know how lucky they are.
