THE warm weather is leaving residents wide open to crime.
That is the message from local police bosses who have issued a timely reminder to the public to ensure doors and windows are left shut or locked.
Sergeant Bruce Howard of Bury's Operational Police Unit said: "The warm weather provides thieves with the chance to take advantage.
"Insecure doors and open windows give offenders the ideal opportunity to benefit at the expense of others."
One of the biggest problems is people leaving car or house keys in accessible places near to doors or windows where offenders can reach in a grab them. In a bid to beat the opportunist thieves, Sgt Bruce offers the following advice:
People having barbecues at the rear of houses should ensure that the front doors are locked.
Keep purses, wallets and house/car keys or mobile phones hidden from view.
Check all windows and doors are secure before you go to bed.
Make sure car sun roofs and windows are closed at night.
Lock away garden equipment after use.
