CHILDREN at a Darwen primary school have scooped a top prize for safety after winning a safety competition following the re-opening of the school.
Pupils at Holy Trinity CE, Darwen, had their school officially re-opened by local MP Janet Anderson last Friday, after being taught in portable cabins for two years.
The safety-conscious kids beat a strong field, with over 50 other schools involved around East Lancashire, to claim the top spot in the Blackburn with Darwen Council's Keeping Safe at Home and Play competition.
The school has won £150 and the pupils will all receive medals, certificates and a winners shield.
Headteacher Keith McDonald, said: "It is a fantastic achievement for the children. They have put up with learning in portacabins for two years, and got on with things without letting their school work suffer -- so if anybody deserves the award then they do. They are a brilliant set of children and are a credit to the school and their parents."
The youngsters are due to receive their prizes from the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Coun John Williams, during the school assembly today.
