TONY Flanagan from Nelson Golf Club won the Wilpshire Trophy on Saturday to follow up his victory in the Revidge Cannon at Blackburn GC the previous week. Record books are being scoured to ascertain whether his achievement is unique.
Tony's score was 136 for the 36 holes. Second was Lancashire County player Ben Scott of Burnley GC on 137, third Nick Uttley of Nelson on 138 and fourth Michael Bardi of Wilpshire, edging out Gary Lacy of Ashton-in-Makerfield into fifth place.
There were six players on 139 including ELGA champion Michael Hunt of Burnley, Ian Perkins of Wilpshire, John Cockcroft of Nelson, Nick Slade of Pleasington and the holder, who put up a spirited defencer, Kenneth Hudson of Grange Park.
Blackburn Golf Club veteran Gary Readett won the Arthur Dickinson Memorial Trophy for the best net 36 holes with 135.
The organisers had to suspend play late on following flashes of lightning, but play was able to continue after 30 minutes. Wilpshire captain Neil Pullen presented the prizes.
