A FULL inquest into the death of grandfather Joseph McCaughran who died after tackling burglars at his Spanish holiday home will be held later this month, in Blackburn.
At the opening yesterday, Blackburn, Hyndburn, and Ribble Valley coroner Michael Singleton said because Mr McCaughran's wife Sheila had witnessed the incident, he would not have to delay the inquest until a full file was obtained from the Spanish authorities.
Mr McCaughran, retired technical officer at British Telecom, died nine days after confronting raiders at his holiday home, in Torrevieja, near Alicante.
The 69-year-old, of Walden Road, Wilpshire, chased one of the burglars to a car where an accomplice was waiting.
Mr McCaughran grabbed hold of the door handle and was dragged along suffering head injuries.
He died nine days later in hospital as a result of his injuries.
