THE Green team have plenty to cheer about after becoming the first house to win Newfield School's inaugural sports day competition.
The house proved to be the top team as they won the primary age group event -- the first school sports day Newfield has held since Dame Evelyn Fox and Blackamoor schools joined together.
Led by team captain, 11-year-old Andrew Stanford, the Green's won a keenly contested competition ahead of the Yellow, Red and Blue house teams.
The Yellow House were captained by Minhas Mohmed while Sarah Howe led the Red House team. Jenny Taylor was the Blue House captain.
The points from the school's sports day will go towards an overall award with all four teams still in the running for the House Shield.
The event was first early age to 11-year-olds. The youngsters competed in a number of events, mainly relay related, both assisted and independent races.
They included the dress the scarecrow relay race, the scavenger hunt and an object relay race.
The competition also included Boccia which consists of throwing a ball into a hoop.
Alison Ford, head of primary said: "It was a very enjoyable event and all the children had a great time."
The school held two events on different days.
On the second day the event was split into Key Stage Three pupils and Key Stage Four and over 16s.
The format was similar to the primary school competition and the Key Stage Three event was won by the Green House.
The Key Stage Four and over 16s event was won by the Blue House.
Not to be outdone, the outdoor relay race was won by the Yellow House.
