BOLTON and Bury Chamber is to return to its former headquarters at Commerce House, Bridgeman Place, Bolton.

Staff will move out of Clive House in Clive Street at the end of the month.

Commerce House, which is owned by the Chamber, is one of Bolton's landmark historic buildings.

It was once a regional office for the National Union of Mineworkers.

After the move it will become home again to the Chamber together with its Education Business Partnership division and the Business Link information service.

Mr Andrew Ratcliff, the Chamber's Chief Executive, said: "We are delighted to be moving back into this stately building, which was the Chamber of Commerce's home for seven years before we merged with the training and Enterprise Council and Business Link in 1998.

"With our recent demerger, our current premises are too large, so we will be establishing a modern centre of excellence amid the rich heritage of Commerce House."

Since the Chamber moved out, the building has become home to several small companies, among them training company BCE Mesnes, which is now expanding into new premises. The Chamber's telephone and fax numbers and e-mail addresses will remain unchanged.

The new address is Bolton and Bury Chamber, Commerce House, Bridgeman Place, Bolton BL2 1DW

A successful North-west company is understood to be negotiating to move into the government-owned Clive House.
